Eventful Little Choices

A short story in three chapters and four endings

Green lights in a row, he was perfectly in synch with traffic this morning. Jack felt good.

Two red lights. All these little delays. Even the elevator had been slow. Mary was ending up a bit later than planned.

He had time to stop at the new café, always seeking the perfect cappuccino and biscotti. Two parking spots left and he took one.

Another red light, and lane merge for roadwork ahead.

The place was full, with just one window table left, two chairs. He put his satchel on the second chair, and pulled out his tablet.

There was enough time to have his cap, the biscotti, and read a few writers he followed. That was always more enjoyable than reading news or peeking ahead at work emails.

Mary finally arrived at her sister’s new cafe, took the last parking spot, and came in for an egg and goat cheese breakfast wrap and coffee.

His phone buzzes. He thinks about whether to stay for another coffee, or go.

Dear readers — you now have to choose what happens next in chapter 2! This story was created for you to explore and find the different endings, based on the different choices people make. At the end of whichever chapter 2 you pick there will be another choice for how the story finally ends in chapter 3. There are, in total, four different endings. (Chapters 2 and 3 are “unlisted” stories — I do not get triple credit (MPP payment) if you read all 3 chapters!)
