I want to train myself to be a realistic optimist. Why? because I want to have faith but not to believe things blindly. We need to understand that human are rarely ‘pure optimists’ or ‘pure…

Mod 2 More Cool Things To Do

In the video, I discuss the most interesting article from Module 2.

My favorite quotes in stereo, O, I think they might be in mono. O’well the one thing I know is they are in 0II000III000III etc. Enjoy.

For cool student work, I thought this comic (above) by BriannaG was great for a couple of different reasons. First, the dialogue between mother and daughter over technology and school was spot on. I also think comics are an interesting way to convey controversy by creating a visual anchor as well as a narrative. It draws the reader/viewer into the story in a way that just text does not do in the same way.

I also like John Foyle’s Darth-Hinson as I am a big old school Star Wars fan. I had never created a gifs before so this was a new experience and there were a number of fun creations from fellow classmates but this one had real appeal.

For this module, I created a radio commercial using Audacity and Soundcloud to host the file, created a gif using a clip from the Blair Witch Project trailer during our Transmedia week, and a dialog using Zoom and YouTube with John Foyle discussing Do Not Track. I also shared a couple of HDR photos from Flickr that were CC by 2.0, and spoke briefly about the concept behind HDR from Week 6. I have created my own HDR photos using Photomax Essentials.

While I did not feel as technologically challenged this module as in the previous module, I did experience digital gremlins in this module as well at the very end, creating this blog. The biggest obstacle was trying to get our dialogue and my gif file on this blog. I have spend quite a bit of time (well over an hour) trying to figure out how to get my gif file to work on this site (ultimately I just remade it with the program). For the first question of the best article, I shot video utilizing my smartphone and when I attempted to email the file it was to large so I saved it to Google Drive, however, that process took more than 30 minutes to upload to G Drive then to YouTube. It would have been much quicker to do a screen cast or even use the video function on my camera. Its all about learning and stretch with final success. All three topics this module were very interesting with copyright having the greatest intellectual depth and implications for those of us in education. When it comes to legal issues this is always a challenge due to the intricacies of the legal system, an important area to be well versed especially as educators who quite frequently utilize other’s materials in our teaching practices but that does not get us a get out of jail card. Lastly when it comes to stretch here is a list of additional material/resources I contributed to our Hypothes.is discussions to further the conversation.
