I want a baby

It is known the notable impact television has in our culture and society. The content we can watch is not always a cultured culture but it does not meaning that it has no relevance in daily life. For example, in my country, Spain, there is a show called: “La isla de las tentaciones” Tentation Island in english. This program is about the loyalty and fidelity between a couple. To try to test this loyality, there are other people disposed to seduce one of the members of the couple. According to that format a lot of moral judgments have been made. That happened also to a Flemish tv broadcasting. The name of the show is: “I want a baby”.

“I want a baby” raise awareness of co-parenthood and the absence of a legal framework. It also exposes the traditional model ingain idea of families and how to create life by the love felt by a man and a woman. The show defends the idea of making a contract between two people for having a baby and there is no need to be love between them. For some people this is unethical and especially because it is shown on television. Like I said before, television has a huge impact in our lifes and some people grew up with it. For that reason some part of the audience has complained of the way this show is done. They think their childs should not see this as something normal. (this happens mostly to conservative people)

In Spain I believe this program could become a controversial topic to treat. Most of the people who watch television are old and closed minded. For the youth I think it has not a strong attraction. So defenitly I think this program would not succeed. I understand they want to show the idea on TV to raise awareness easily of this topic that is part of our life. Television in some families is like an other member. A lot of families have lunch and dinner with it and they spend a lot of time watching content in front of the screen.

From my point of view i think is an innovative format and topic and it should be taken into account. I think is a topic that concerns all society due to we are evolving as a group. Homosexual people, single mothers and fathers, people who want to form a family without the requirement of loving someone should have the opportunity of enjoying one of the best desire and magic pleasures of life; becaming parents. Nowadays there are a lot of not traditional families and this is part of our society, so I do not see this tv program as something unethical. I believe is a good opportunity to show the things like they are now, without setting aside the traditional love families. I could understand that the mentioned reality program “Tentation Island” could be unethical because people are forced to be exposed into a hard situation where their confidence could be lost and that affects directly to their feelings.

At the end, I can find the difference of these “unethical” programms which are: Tentation island is an entertainment show and the other one is a reflexive one which deepens in a problem present in our reality.

To conclude, we as a society should try to understand all points of view and tolerate them. For people who grow up with the education of traditional families, this kind of creating life could be something trivial or weird because they are not used to it. For other people this could represent the idea of downplay an issue so common that is having a child. In life there are always silver linings, that means that there are advantages that comes from difficult or unpleasant situations. So when a problem concerns all society we should investigate about how to solve it. “I want a baby” is a program that has a silver lining. They are taking advantage of a topic that for most people is an unpleasant situation and they want to total change this thought because they see like I see this is something normal that could make a lot of people be passionate and find a motive to enjoy and recreate life.
