I walked to the edge of the observation deck, my eyes feasted on a wild downpour, and spray that emitted like a fog descending on the day. The crash came at the base, then calmed, flowing back into the Niagara River.

Hands big and small, held onto the railing, eyes peered across the expanse of the gorge, gazing at the wonder, fixed, unable to pull them away. It was monumental in its awe, like the first time I looked down from 30,000 feet, above clouds and birds, frightened yet thrilled at its power, its majesty — and I am grateful for the memory.
