My 3 Biggest Benefits of Meal Prepping

I have always wanted to write a blog, but I never knew how or what I wanted to write about. Over the last few years I have become really passionate for helping others in the health and fitness realm. One of the most frequent questions I have been asked over the years is does meal prepping really have substantial upside?

The benefits of meal prepping are endless. Meal prepping saves money, saves time, helps individuals who struggle with portion control, makes it easier to have a balanced diet overall, and these are just SOME of the benefits.

Does Meal Prepping Save Time?
Are you a person that works a full-time job? Wants more time to spend with the family? Has no extra time to hit the gym? Cant find anytime to see that new movie that’s playing? Well as silly as it sounds meal prepping can help in all of these areas. Yes, meal prepping for the week could take 1–2 hours of you time, however by doing so you can find yourself with additional time do those activities you didn’t have time for in the past. By meal prepping you are eliminating wait times at restaurants, the daily standby time that it takes to cook each individual meal, and lastly it can help save the stress in the morning standing in front of the refrigerator wondering what you’re going to pack for lunch. At the end of the day, as humans we only have so much time, spend it doing what you love.

I am a person who meal preps each week (5 days a week) for my lunch and dinners. If you take a look at the figure below you can see my meal prep ingredients for the week. It costs me $19.46 for my lunch and dinners for the week. Annually (not including weekends), that would be a cost of $5,059. Now I know no one in their right mind would cook every single meal for the entire year, but we can see the drastic difference a person can save by meal prepping instead of eating out.

How is Portion Control Affected by Meal Prepping?
Whether you are an individual who is trying to lose weight, gain muscle or simply just maintain the position you are in, meal prepping helps us all when it comes to portion control. I mean, who wouldn’t want to just sit on the couch and binge eat Chinese food or snacks from the pantry? By laying out your foods ahead of time it makes the individual less likely to binge eat foods snacks around the house or make a split decision to go grab some fast food. Meal prepping also creates a stop block in individuals minds. Unlike, eating out at restaurants where portion sizes always vary, meal prepping lets the individual know they have hit their nutrition goal limit for that meal, this will create a portion discipline over time.

Joe
