Resolutions are BULLSHIT

Years past led to those thoughts of turning everything around on one day, New Years Eve. Everything gets washed away and we can start over, right?!

Not really. We look for solutions that were unrealistic without a plan, a daily, sometimes hourly plan. The bigger the conquest, the more small pieces it will take in cohesive motion to continue moving forward.

The (Unintentional) Lies

Past lives have told me these same lies and they came from…wait for it…myself. Now, every time we tell ourselves these lies we have visions of grander days in our mind. Next year at this time Matt, we will have changed everything!

Patrolling through the recovery process from prescription drugs started a long time before the last day of use. Life is tough. Addiction makes it worse. It is a controlling action in our lives that puts everything and everyone else in our lives on the side burner or in the trash.

Feeling good is a daily process. Our food, our exercise, our mental capacity to deal with sudden changes can all drastically shift how we approach everything else.

The Resolution

If we want to find more time to go to the gym, it starts with Day 1 of waking up earlier to go to the gym or get pieces of yourdaily life done so you can go after work.

If you want to get better at keeping and building a strong financial background, better health plan, higher satisfaction with our mental state, or a million and one other improvements we can all make, then research it. Find the leading and best ideas and make them work for you.

So many times, I told myself on the 4th of January, “well, you used again, so this year is shot.” Those of you reading this as recovering or current addicts know the slope of excuses that allow us to lie to ourselves and use again.

Write to YOU

When you write, some part of it must be to you. I find it much harder to not follow through with something on my list for the day. If there is something that is not done on my list for the day, then put on your agenda for tomorrow. Don’t beat yourself up.

Learn, and move forward. Our resolutions are 365 individual ones that will make up the pie chart of how our year will look December 31st, 2018.
