Shifting Focus

To explain why I cannot answer your proposed question as asked I must first explain why and how I read news articles. I rarely read articles for the reporting, rather, I do not analyze the reporter’s words. In other words, when I read an article I will read from multiple sources and try to get the picture in my mind. I try to put myself in the moment, try to play things out in my head and then rarely pass judgement. Though the lack of passing judgement is my pseudo-nihilistic view. What is meant by that is I don’t particularly care about many parts of life. Namely, I could care very little about many others and their views on me and their takes on life; as long as the treat people with the dignity they deserve I could care less about them. But, on topic, I can’t completely answer this question because of the process of my reading of the news. That is not to say that I don’t have certain sites and stories that I like more than others, but it’s more reasoned by the accuracy and description of events, rather than the added commentary. Ok, so let’s truly begin.

I generally like the bigger news sources such as MSN, CNN, etc. As they will give commentary but will also give an in-depth account of events. This is less the reporters’ faults and more the fact that these news companies are larger and have more contacts and resources. The slightly smaller and newer groups Breitbart or Buzzfeed have contacts and resources to report events but have less. As such, I’ve found that the smaller groups will try to make an event sound more extraordinary than a larger company will. Not to say the larger groups don’t they just don’t need to as much. The larger sources have more resources and long-time viewers/readers that will support them even without huge breaking stories. The smaller companies must compete and so create grand stories. I have found this trend reversing, however, as the general populace of the world becomes more cynical and so reject the larger sources. As such, I’ve begun to find the large groups to create large, eccentric, and thrilling stories rather than report events. Because of this, my focus has begun to shift over the years, and I am starting to look more towards individual reporting on all side of a subject. This is because they will usually have live video from an event and show it. This is, of course, just my opinion but I greatly appreciate the live and poorly cropped videos. I feel it gives a more complete look at a subject/ event when things aren’t sound bided or cropped/ edited.
